Laila Howe netted a hat trick to lead the Stoughton Icebergs girls hockey team to a 4-0 Badger Conference win over the Badger Lightning on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Pierce Park in Baraboo.

The Icebergs (6-3, 4-1 Badger Conference) earned a 2-1 nonconference victory against the Lakeshore Lightning on Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Mandt Community Center.

Icebergs 4, Badger Lightning 0

Howe gave the Icebergs a 1-0 lead with an unassisted power-play goal 7 minutes, 19 seconds into the first period. Arianna Stroede (Monona Grove) scored on an even strength-goal assisted by Carley O’Neil (Stoughton) just 13 seconds into the second period to extend the Iceberg lead to 2-0.

Howe found the back of the net just 1:08 later. Stroede was credited with an assist. Howe capped the scoring and earned a hat trick with a short-handed goal late in the third period.

Goalie Jordyn Godfrey (Monona Grove) stopped all 24 shots on goal for Stoughton.

Icebergs 2, Lakeshore Lightning 1

O’Neil gave Stoughton a 1-0 lead 4:32 into the first for the only score of the period. Morgan Rhyner (Stoughton) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a score in the second period. O’Neil and Avery Gerothanas (Monona Grove) assisted on the score.

Lakeshore scored once in the third period to cut the deficit in half, but that capped the scoring. Godfrey had another standout game, stopping 33 of 34 shots in goal.
